Research advertising structures New

Introduction

In this piece of work I am going uncover what TV advertising is, how it’s used to persuade people and also I am going to look at different types of advertisement and analyse them using examples.

What is advertising?

Advertising is promoting a product or service through the use of media. There are many ways to attract people by using adverts such as using different advertising strategies. For example if the advert is for kids they will use toys in the advert and the advert will be animated to attract children. The reason they use the toys is because kids want toys then they will remember the advert. To attract teenagers they use the latest phones and SIM cards adverts because teenagers always want a new phone and they will remember the advert. They also persuade people by using charity advert and making the audience feel.

Also the main thing that is used every advert is music and they make sure that the music is catchy and goes with the advert. There are many other ways to attract people and make them remember. For example some advertisement uses celebrity’s endorsement. This is because they are easily recognisable and the audience will see the celebrity use the product or service and they will want to sue it as well.

Advertising structures Different types of advertisement:

Narrative advertisement

This is when the advert is story related and they are always in linear order which means it has a start- middle- end. It could be fictional or non-fictional. An example of this is the Halifax Home Finder App. This is a narrative advert because in the starting it shows a couple trying to find the perfect home and shows several home all with problems and then they use the home finder app and find the perfect home.

The structure of this advert is narrative because it show a couple who are looking for a perfect home and they use the home finder application. This is a narrative structure. Different types of music are used for example when they are looking for a house fast music is used but when they find the perfect home the music is slow and romantic music because they find the perfect home.

There are different types of shots which are used in the advert such as medium shot when they in other houses and it show what’s wrong with them. Close up shot is used at the end of the advert when they finally find the perfect home and they both look at each other with joy. Long shot is used when they use the phone to look for the house through the Home Finder App and it shows through the phone a range of houses.

The director uses these techniques because the narrative structure relates to this advert because it’s a couple looking for a perfect home. There are two key characters a man and a woman are who are a couple.  The target audience for this advert are married couples and people who move around a lot because. The advert helps the audience find the perfect home so it’s successful. Also another reason why I think this advert is successful because it clearly states its audience and people will actually use it because it’s easily accessible.

This is when the advertisement is not in order it will switch from one place to another and could have flashbacks. For example in an advertisement if someone is sitting at home watching TV the next will be him sitting in a totally different place doing something else. An example of a non-linear advert would be the Guinness advert, in the advert it shows the evaluation of mankind. This shows that the mankind has been waiting for the drink and how important it is.

Realist advert
These adverts include figures as well as facts which allows the audience to get involved and engage with the advert. The adverts are produced to shows that the products are a must buy for its audience and target market. The purpose of these adverts is solving problems and gives a solution to its audience. An example of this would be Heads shoulders shampoo advert. This is a realist because it doesn’t include any special effects and it’s something that you use in everyday life. It also uses celebrity endorsement because there is Jenson Button in the actual advert.

Animations

These types of adverts are used to attract children and kids through the use of toys and products which are for kids. It uses cartoon images to attract its target audience. An example of this would be the Simpsons Coca Cola advert when Mr Burns is walking and everyone is enjoying themselves and drink coca cola and Mr Burns get invited to join them. This shows that by drinking this product it brings people together and they can enjoy themselves.

Anti-realist
Anti-realist adverts are advert which use special effects. This could be things like people flying or creatures which are special effects.  An example of this would be the Lynx adverts. In the adverts its end of the world for example apocalypse and a man uses the product Lynx which attract all the females form the world and they all garter around him. It uses special effects like the sky is dark and gloomy and the earth is torn apart which is all special effects.
